I bought a copy of Under the Shadow after reading Mr. Kay's interview on Fantascize. I was not disappointed; this young man can write! The book was enjoyable; the characters and plot were well-crafted; I only hope that J.M. Kay will complete vols 2 and 3 of this series in the most efficient and expeditious way possible. Great read with a twist. If you like sci fi, you can't go wrong!
Read it in just a couple of days. Great character development. Looking forward to the next installment!

Even though I'm generally not into science fiction, this book captured my attention throughout. It is not your "typical" sci fi novel. The development of the main characters and the interweaving story plots kept me captivated. I only wish there was volume 2 and 3 ready for me to read now!
Kay is a gifted writer, and this first novel is a must-read for young adults and for sci-fi lovers of all ages. His descriptive passages took me to places I haven't traveled since reading A Wrinkle in Time and watching Alien and A Space Odyssey 2001. Can't wait for the next volume!
