I would've given in 4.5 stars, if I could have. This is still a fun fairy tale story with love and castles and kings and such, but it also has an underlying message about how important it is to work hard for what you want, save money for big hairy goals, and utilize the talents God gave you to begin with. Love the way Daniel Britton cuts out mythical mumbo jumbo and describes the steps necessary to make dreams come true. The story is well woven in clear, simple language and the illustrations are charming. I also love the twist in the tale that gives it a modernised touch. An inspiring "Yes, you can!" kind of story. Yay! Go for it!

As the title says, The Financial Fairy Tales is indeed about money and finances, about greed, power and things not being what they seem at first glance. However, it's also about morals and faith and besides the usual scientific information that you can find in any school manual, what would be the most important lesson you could teach your children if not one about values and life principles? In a world that is today governed more and more by greed and hypocrisy, I believe this book, through the mist and the charm of the old fairy tales, with their lovely princesses, wicked old witches and daring heroes, speaks to the children about things they are yet to find out as they grow up, preparing them for the real life, where Prince Charming is not always there to the rescue, but I must say, witches do transform themselves all the time into beautiful young ladies ).

The Financial Fairy Tales Dreams Can Come True
This book describes a young man, Tom,. probably in his late teens or early twenties, who lives in the forest with his family. Since his father is a woodcutter, Tom also is an experienced and talented carver himself. Tom really wants a horse, and although his family makes a decent living, they are unable to afford this horse. Tom's Uncle Solomon offers to help Tom reach his dream of owning a horse. He provides him with sound ideas on how to earn money for the horse. The ideas are simple, and they make complete sense. Unfortunately, as a society we don't teach our children the values which allow them to grow up to be financially stable and productive citizens, but this books helps us to do so. The story stays interesting as Tom begins to earn money and save towards his horse. His goals soon change when he meets a young woman who holds a lot of his attention. It's a fun read following Tom on his quest.
The message, about learning how to earn money in order to finance your goals or dreams, is told in an interesting way. The story helps parents explain to their children that, in order to get what you want, you have to plan, save, and work hard (or at least smart!). The author doesn't make Tom feel bad about wanting material things, but he does make a point of showing Tom, through Uncle Solomon, how to earn the money to pay for what he wants. The pictures are wonderful and they really help draw the reader in. The lesson is strong and easy to understand. I would recommend this book to other parents who want to help lay a strong foundation for financial literacy.
